When building handrails for a wood deck, make sure to check your local building codes first to find out the acceptable railing height, space between balusters, and distance between posts that is required. While building codes can vary, most building codes require: 6 or less between posts. 36 or higher handrails.
To build a deck railing, start by figuring out how many posts you need, then cut your wood to size and install the posts. Next, mark the railing height on the posts with a pencil and double-check the distance between the posts.
Marking out the 3D geometry for building handrails directly in 3D with CAD is really much faster and more precise than marking out by hand or in 2D. The simplest case is a round rail. The round rail has become popular in France for modern stairs often built onto stairs in cement or steel.
Metal hand railings will last as long as the steps and not need replacing. A metal hand railing involves setting the vertical posts into the concrete steps to anchor them securely in place. Hand railings help persons balance themselves when going up or down steps with packages and help the elderly maintain their balance.
